An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable, easy-to-use medical device designed to treat people experiencing sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). AEDs analyze the heart’s rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electric shock to help re-establish a normal rhythm.
